A minor is the first minor key most people learn: no sharps, no flats, the white keys of the piano starting on A. Its chords are Am, B°, C, Dm, Em, F and G, and almost every song in it swaps the weak Em for a major E when it wants to come home. Its relative major is C major, which shares every note, and its parallel, A major, shares the root. On guitar it is the home of open chords, which is why so many folk, rock and bedroom-pop songs sit here.
The chords of A minor
Seven chords, one on each note of the scale, all on the white keys. Songs in A minor often borrow E, the major V, for a stronger pull home.
Am is sounding: A, C and E.
