“Some days a song just won’t come, and nothing I try lands. Then a few chords on YouTube spark a melody. I built DOT to catch that spark, drag it into my DAW and play it with my own sounds.”

There’s no audio driver or plugin to install, and no rerouting in your DAW. Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
For recording, yes
BlackHole is a virtual audio driver: you install it, then route your Mac’s sound through it to record. DOT needs neither. It records with one macOS permission, on macOS 14.4 or later. If you also use BlackHole to send audio between apps live, keep it for that.
Your own sounds, yes
Your own sessions, sample packs and anything else you’re licensed to use, yes. Part of someone else’s recording is different: clear it with whoever owns it before you release a song that uses it. DOT records anything you can hear; what you can release depends on who owns it.
Yes
Drag a clip onto a track and it lands as a normal audio file (WAV, AIFF, MP3 or M4A), with its chords as a standard MIDI file. If your DAW accepts files dragged in from Finder, it works with DOT.
One permission
Screen & System Audio Recording. It’s how Mac apps are allowed to record sound. DOT uses only the audio, never your screen, and macOS may ask you to reopen DOT once after you allow it.
Microphone access too, only if you add your mic.
DOT may also ask to see the title of what is playing on Spotify. That one is optional.
They stay on your Mac
Your recordings never leave your Mac, and recording works offline. DOT goes online to check for updates and your license, and to send anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off in Settings.
